May 5, 2023Two KIPP Newark Collegiate Students Win Goldberg Scholarships!
Two KIPP Newark Collegiate Academy students who attend the public charter network’s high school in Newark just found out they are winners of the Dave Goldberg Scholarship and will be receiving $60,000 for non-tuition expenses in college.
Genesis Parfait is a proud school president, volleyball captain, founder of a peer mentorship program, honor society member, and member of the Boys and Girls Club of Newark for over ten years. She is interested in majoring in forensic science and minoring in digital marketing.
“I’m passionate about ending my senior year with a bang,” Genesis said. “Hard work gets you to great places and it’s pretty hard to get there, but I’m on track. I’ve made sacrifices and received opportunities that make me a better person.”
Moyisola Esther Akinwande is an intern at New Africa Broadcasting Network TV and social media manager for the Africa Chamber of Commerce. In her spare time, she works to grow her small business, Global Beauties, where she assists individuals in her community grow their own businesses. She will be attending Case Western Reserve University this fall as a Posse Scholar to major in business administration and minor in psychology.
“I am passionate about helping others start their own businesses and generate wealth for future generations,” Moyisola said.
The 2023 cohort of Goldberg Scholars will receive a unique combination of financial support and mentorship during their four-year college experience. Highlights include
- A “Goldberg Mentor” to provide mentorship and support on a regular basis throughout college
- Critical financial support totaling approximately $15,000 a year per student to cover a range of non-tuition needs not traditionally covered by college-based financial aid
- Support from “Goldberg Connectors” – a network of professionals who will help scholars secure critical summer internships and job opportunities.
The Goldberg Scholarship Program was established in 2017 by the Sandberg Goldberg Bernthal Family Foundation to support graduating high school seniors from KIPP schools across the country.
