While most New Jersey public school students are sweating through the dog days of summer, students at KIPP New Jersey have already started a new school year of learning and growth. To mark the occasion, KIPP Seek Academy, located in Newark’s South Ward, held a welcome last Thursday for its 561 young students, grades K-4, who ran to their classrooms buzzing with excitement and anticipation.
Alexis Conde, KIPP Seek Academy School Leader, told NJ Education Report,
“At KIPP New Jersey, we are dedicated to providing a positive and inclusive school climate that is essential for both student achievement and social skills development. It is an honor and privilege to serve every student who comes through our doors. As one of the first schools in Newark to welcome students back for the year, we are overjoyed and look forward to all that lies ahead!”
Seek Academy is part of KIPP New Jersey, a network of 25 free, open-enrollment public charter schools in Newark and Camden that currently educates 8,588 scholars. More than 92% of scholars are from low-income households. The network boasts highly effective educators who maintain close ties to families, a longer school calendar than traditional public schools, a culture focused on achievement, and social-emotional support services.
