Four years ago NJ Education Report published a story about then-Asbury Park Superintendent Lamont Repollet and his staff/friends’ trip to Ghana under the auspices of Oiada International, a non-profit that “prepares students for the global workforce and empower them to become 21st century global citizens.” Sources we spoke to at the time said that the 29 adults on the trip didn’t pay their own way. However, Dr. Kristie Howard, Director of Student Services, sent NJER proof that neither local, state, nor federal money was used to cover her expenses of about $4,000 and she personally paid for the trip. NJER apologizes for the error.

The trip in March 2019 was attended by only two Asbury Park students (not including Repollet’s two daughters who weren’t enrolled in the district). The highlight of the trip  was the “Enstoolment Ceremony of Sigma Brother Dr. Lamont Repollet,” who was crowned “King Nana” and given the “new role as Chief of Education for the village of Abram Agona Ghana.”
