Merit Pay Debate

Remember a couple of months ago when N.J. school districts wiped a sweaty brow in relief after Governor Corzine presented his budget and announced that he wouldn’t cut school aid? NJSBA quotes Corzine’s budget in an exuberant press release:
No school district will receive less than it received last year, and 171 districts will receive increases.
No one imagined that he’d cut this year’s budget. Yet all districts lost their April-June state aid payments, and now districts are finding out that they’ve lost money in other unexpected places. The Record reports that last month Englewood School District was told that they won’t be gettting $2 million in Integrative Assistance Aid budgeted for the 2008-2009 school year. In response, they’ve filed a lawsuit against Lucille Davy and are looking at how to make up the shortfall.
Maybe the State needs to take that new required high school course in financial management.
