June 23, 2023Asbury Park Orders Security Officers To Violate Their Contract
This morning, Thursday, at 6:32 am, Asbury Park Education Association president John Napolitani sent the following email to his members. It concerns, according to sources, an order from the Human Resources Department in the district that security officers work through June 30th, even though the last contractual day for APEA members was Tuesday, June 20th.
There is a school board meeting tonight. Expect fireworks.
Here is the complete email:
Good Morning,
I am fully aware that the Human Resource Department sent out a directive that security officers were to report to work yesterday through June 30, even though they are 10 month employees. Apparently people in the HR department are not aware of contract law and past practice. Their lack of knowledge and/or blatant disregard for my membership gets more disgusting by the day.
I am requesting that while I am attempting to get the central office to understand the severity of their decision, please do not be insubordinate. Please attend work, track your hours, and remain professional. The Association Leadership has your back and we will grieve this directive. In our eyes, it’s hard to believe this stupid move will add to more of the expensive mess of grievances we have had to file since this leadership team took over the central office. One thing is for sure, the lawyers for the district are having a field day with their billable hours at the Asbury Park taxpayers expense.
In Solidarity,
John P. Napolitani Sr.
APEA President
