The Partnership for West Side High School, an independent non-profit that supports the high school, just released a video that showcases the school’s “treasured history.” 

A spokesman explained that Principal Akbar Cook has developed the school “into a community focal point of Newark, providing unique experiences, opportunities, and care for our Newark kids,” focused on an environment of academic excellence, college readiness, workforce readiness, and a safe culture.

“Every Newark parent knows the frustrating challenge of having to fight for their child’s education – and we want to ensure that West Side’s unique value and promise is broadly shared throughout the City so more Newark families can fully utilize the school’s resources. Together, we are building innovative opportunities for West Side scholars by building work-study collaborations between the school and local businesses, higher education institutions, and diverse workforce domains.  Most of all, through unique hands-on opportunities and mentorships, we provide students right here in Newark with a clear pathway to study a trade, go to college, discover passions, build a career, and build a deep sense of pride and loyalty to be a part of the Newark community.”
