May 18, 2023Fearing Retaliation, Asbury Park Teachers Make a Move Before Tonight’s No-Confidence Presentation
This is an email received by all members of the Asbury Park Education Association as they prepare for a vote of no-confidence in Superintendent Rashawn Adams at tonight’s School Board meeting. Reportedly, many members are saying they will vote for in favor of the no-confidence document, angered by a long series of events that has made them question Adams’ competence and leadership, but they are afraid of retaliation from the district leader.
Good Morning,
Pursuant to the vote of no confidence in the superintendent this evening, we need the staff to attend this meeting tonight at 6pm. We understand people are very scared and fearful of retaliation because this threat is real. We have decided that this will be presented this evening, however, the document will NOT be handed over to the Board in fear of them sharing it with the superintendent. We fully know that a list will be made of the members who participated. We will only share this document with the County Executive Superintendent for his review and verification purposes.
If you have not yet signed, please contact your building representatives before the end of the day as we have a Representative Council meeting this afternoon to discuss the process this evening. Again, I need the staff at this meeting. For the record, I received a call from a very good friend who is also very involved in the community as well as a very big organization, and he assured me they have our backs. You’re going to have to trust me on this now.
In Solidarity,
John Napolitani
