BREAKING NEWS: Murphy Will Replace Education Commissioner
January 6, 2023Is Murphy’s Teacher Shortage Task Force a Solution In Search of a Problem?
January 9, 2023NJ Senator Is ‘Disappointed’ Murphy Is Politicizing Information Literacy Law
Senator Michael Testa (R-1) responded to false claims being made about a newly signed law that requires students to be taught about information literacy:
“Sadly, some people are suggesting that our new information literacy law is somehow an attempt to control what our kids think. That’s the exact opposite of what this law will do.
“We must acknowledge that today’s children are being hit with a firehose of information unlike anything experienced by previous generations, with much of it coming from potentially unreliable sources such as TikTok, YouTube, and Wikipedia.
“By teaching kids to not blindly trust the information they receive through the news, social media, and other sources and giving them the tools to be skeptical, questioning, independent thinkers, we make it harder for them to be indoctrinated by anyone.
“I am disappointed that Governor Murphy has chosen to frame the value of teaching kids about information literacy in terms of January 6, which could give the impression there is some ideological slant to the law, which there is not.”
This is a press release.

After reading Murphy’s statement on January 6th, in my opinion his statement is one of the first documents illustrating an opinion (and certainly a slanted one) of what occurred on January 6th. An educator could certainly provide documents and films illustrating the event and critique the Governor’s version. In my opinion, speaking as a former educator (teacher, Reading Specialist for over 30 years) it’s a perfect place to begin for older learners. I find the Governor’s account interesting and it affirms his political bias. In 2008 I reported the fraud in Title I and ESL funded programs, only to have every one of my tenure and Constitutional protections violated. The NJEA controls the Governor and public education and protects those guilty of blatant discrimination, commingling, misappropriation of funds in Districts, their unethical attorneys and misfeasance in the Courts. New Jersey needs to overhaul education and hold those accountable for their abuse.
Actually, it’s January 6 that comes to mind when I consider why this additional state mandate is needed.
