March 20, 2023New Jersey Presidents’ Council Grants Three More Graduate Programs to NJCTL
The New Jersey Presidents’ Council, representing the state’s public, private, and community colleges and universities, has adopted a resolution, upon the advice of its Academic Issues Committee, that allows the New Jersey Center for Teaching and Learning (NJCTL) to offer three new Master of Science in Teaching and Learning (MSTL) degrees.
These new MSTL degrees in Biology, Computer Science, and Elementary Mathematics join NJCTL’s MSTL degrees in Physics, K12 Mathematics, and Chemistry; greatly expanding NJCTL’s offerings to teachers. All six programs are available now.
In making its March 13 decision, the Presidents’ Council determined that NJCTL’s new academic degrees “provide evidence of sufficient academic quality and sufficient labor market demand” and that “the proposed new academic degree programs are not excessively duplicative or unduly expensive.”
NJCTL’s graduate programs are 100% online and asynchronous. Tuition is less than $6,900 for each master’s degree, based on NJCTL’s low tuition rate of $180 a credit. New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) members receive a 20% discount, lowering their tuition rate to $144 a credit and the cost of each MSTL degree below $5,600.
NJEA founded and provides significant ongoing support to NJCTL to achieve its mission of empowering communities of educators and families to lead school improvement, so that all children have access to a high-quality education.
“Our graduate courses, programs, and MSTL degrees, along with our free, editable teaching materials, help current and prospective educators prepare to teach science, mathematics, and computer science in New Jersey schools,” explained Robert Goodman, Ed.D., executive director, NJCTL. “Many schools are expanding and improving their STEM offerings and need more specialized, skilled instructors.”
NJCTL, a non-profit institution, is a top producer of the teachers and resources needed to provide all students access to a high-quality K12 & AP science, mathematics, and computer science education. NJCTL is a duly authorized New Jersey Graduate School of Education on track to accreditation. Learn more at njctl.org.
