Tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 16, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona will wrap up the Road to Success Back to School Bus Tour in New Jersey. The week-long, multi-state road trip is showcasing the many ways school communities are helping students recover and thrive, putting them on the road to success
Secretary Cardona will head with AmeriCorps CEO Michael D. Smith, U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross and New Jersey Acting Commissioner of Education Angelica Allen-McMillan to Camden High School, where they will tour the school and learn more about their partnership with the National Partnership for Student Success, a recently-created coalition that will support the expansion, launch and improvement of high-impact tutoring, mentoring, post-secondary transition coaching and other programs that will help students recover academically, and support student mental health and overall well-being. The NPSS follows President Biden’s call for more tutors and mentors in the 2022 State of the Union Address to help students recover from the pandemic and thrive. While in New Jersey, Deputy Secretary of Education Cindy Marten and AmeriCorps CEO Michael D. Smith will also visit the Boys & Girls Club of Camden County–which partnered with the New Jersey Tutoring Corps program to provide high-impact summer tutoring to students–for a conversation with local and regional youth-serving organizations and AmeriCorps programs on community partnerships to support student success.
The Road to Success Bus Tour featured stops in Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, preceding tomorrow’s New Jersey stop. Secretary Cardona, Deputy Secretary Marten and local school leaders joined students, parents and educators for additional events that celebrated the back-to-school season and underscored the Administration’s commitment to helping students recover from the impacts of the pandemic and continue the road to success. As part of the Road to Success Bus Tour, Administration leaders highlighted academic and mental health programs and efforts to recruit and support educators funded by President Biden’s American Rescue Plan, which provided historic resources to K-12 schools, colleges, and universities to reopen schools and help students of all ages recover.
